Meet the Yardies – Mel & Mark

20th March 2019 by Scott McPate | News & Events

Last month we met Jac and Harry and this month we’ve got another two Yardies to get to know. We have Mel Wilson, our Technical Trainer based in Cardiff, and Mark Anderson our Content & Campaigns Manager from Edinburgh, answer a few questions.

Based in Edinburgh and Cardiff, we’re an award-winning agency, and we want you to meet the people that are integral to our success.

What’s your favourite or most memorable ad/marketing campaign?

Recommend a TV series that we all need to watch!

My watching habits are many and random, so anything from Altered Carbon (thought provoking) to Parks and Recreation (always good for a laugh) to Phineas and Ferb (the ‘feel good’ factor)…

Describe what your typical day looks like from start to finish.

Depends on the day!  I’m typically either training a course from our Data Analytics Apprenticeship or preparing / updating course materials.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Variety is the spice of life and my days are always different!  It’s also good chatting to delegates and hearing that they’re using what they’re learning or that they’ve understood something they were finding a bit tricky.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your job?

Training sessions with a view to accommodating different personalities, learning styles and learning levels.  We can get an interesting mix!

When I’m not at work, I…

Like to go for a wander, eat tasty food, relax with a good book and cook up new recipes.

What are your five top tracks of the moment?

This question is too tricky!  I’m likely to enjoy anything with a good rhythm that I know the words to…

The Thick of It – life continues to imitate art.

Describe what your typical day looks like from start to finish.

It varies a lot, which I enjoy. Generally, it will include any step in the process of taking content from a concept through to delivery. This involves coming up with ideas. Fleshing out the requirements to deliver them. Creating and editing copy while working with designers and developers to see them through to fruition. Of course, to do that effectively there is plenty of communication with clients too.

What projects are you working on at the moment?

I don’t want to give away anything that could result in our ideas being stolen by client’s competitors. Let’s just say some great creative content in a variety of formats that will allow our SEO clients to engage their target audiences, secure online coverage and generate links as well as many ongoing content optimisation projects.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Two equally great things – seeing content go live and generate great results alongside the chance to work with others in the dept. to help them achieve their goals.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your job?

Trying to concentrate with some of the drivel that gets played on the office stereo.

When I’m not at work, I…

Walk up mountains, slide down mountains and enjoy mountains of sports and music.

What are your five top tracks of the moment?

  • City Music – Kevin Morby
  • Give Thx – Nightmares on Wax
  • The World (Is Going Up In Flames) – Stripped-Down Mix – Charles Bradley
  • Sermon – Mercury Rev
  • Uncle Blue – Leifur James
