Meet the Yardies – Francois & Abbie

22nd July 2019 by Scott McPate | News & Events

Last month we caught up with Phil and Lewis and now we have two more Yardies to get to know. From the Cardiff office this month we have Web Developer, Francois Beyers, and from Edinburgh, we have our Outreach Manager, Abbie Cowper-Barrie, answer some questions.

Yard is an award-winning agency based in Edinburgh and Cardiff and it’s good to get to know the people behind the scenes that make the agency tick.

Francois Beyers - Web Developer

Name or what you like to be called:
I have been known by many: Frank, Frankie, Hollywood (Frankie Goes to Hollywood), but you can call me François.

What office are you based in?

How long have you worked at Yard?
1 year 7 months

Recommend a TV series that we all need to watch!
Mr. Robot

What’s your favourite or most memorable ad/marketing campaign?
A surfer pays for a pizza while surfing, plus Morgan Freeman, what else do you need!

Describe what your typical day looks like from start to finish.
Get into the office for around 8 am. I like it when the office is quiet. Get a coffee, go through my emails and telegram messages. If I have work that I can continue with I will start on that. I work on projects, so there is always something going on. Which is great as you can just get stuck into it.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
British Gas Retail migration and Folly Farm

What’s the best thing about your job?
I enjoy the mixture of problem-solving and learning – not one day is the same at Yard. Also, the people I share the office with are an amazing bunch!

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your job?
I think this has been answered before, but it’s the challenge of getting thrown in the deep end and figuring out how to solve the issue.

When I’m not at work, I…
I like to entertain my baby boy! Otherwise, I love surfing and running. Training for an ultra marathon and generally just having a relaxing time.

What are your five top tracks of the moment?
These are the first 5 songs on my running playlist:

  • Keep Me – The Black Keys
  • Don’t Owe Me a Thang – Gary Clark Jr.
  • Blackwater – The Blackwater Fever
  • The Heat – The Bones of J.R. Jones
  • Can’t You Hear Me Knocking – The Rolling Stones

What’s your favourite or most memorable ad/marketing campaign?
Should’ve gone to Specsavers

Describe what your typical day looks like from start to finish.
Porridge and a cup of tea to start the day. We have a stand up meeting every morning and chat through the work we completed yesterday, what we have on today and the other projects we may have to help out on. The day to day is a mixture of proofing sites, emails, copy checking, link reclamation, chasing promised links, outreach any new sites and begin sourcing new sites.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
Working with the content team to come up with new content to outreach for ROX. Looking into different niches and ideas which have never been explored by the brand before which will be good for earning links.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Lots of links = doughnuts!

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your job?
No-follow links, I’m cursed by no-follow links.

When I’m not at work, I…
Spend as much time as possible in the little sun we have at the moment or eating McDonald’s.

What are your five top tracks of the moment?
According to my Spotify… everything Lewis Capaldi has ever released, Miguel – Pineapple Skies, Solange – Don’t Touch My Hair
