Apple sue Samsung for copying iPhone / iPad design

19th April 2011 by Alex Davies | News & Events

Apple is suing technology rival Samsung over claims of copying, stating that the range of Galaxy products (smartphone and tablet) are too similar to the iPhone and iPad’s design. The lawsuit was filed on Friday, alleging Samsung violated Apple’s patents and trademarks.

Apple state that the Galaxy tablet copies a large amount of aesthetic design, including the rectangular appearance, rounded corners, black border and arrangement of icons. In addition, the product packaging of the Galaxy ‘S’ smartphone and ‘Tab’ tablet is also similar to that of the iPhone and iPad.

We’re unsure whether this will impact further lawsuits on other rival companies as a large amount follow suit in terms of product aesthetic. In addition, Samsung provide Apple with hardware used in the Macbook Pro products, so this will likely mean Apple will be seeking other hardware providers for their future product series.
