BIMA Digital Day – A Student’s POV

BIMA Digital Day

BIMA’s Digital Day is aimed at 13-18 year old students and sees digital professionals head back to school for the day to inspire pupils and give them an insight into a world of digital careers. Not only that, but the afternoon is dedicated to a nationwide competition where students complete one of three sponsored challenges to be in with the chance of being crowned Digital Day champions.

Last year we headed along to Craigmount High School in Edinburgh to have a chat with some of the students about what we do at Yard and what working in digital really involves. This year, one of the Craigmount students who took part in the 2015 Digital Day is spending the week in the Yard offices for work experience, so we took the chance to ask her what she thought of the initiative:

“The world today is becoming more digital by the minute and there are so many different jobs in technology that young people might not be aware of such as a web designer or computer games tester etc.

I think Digital Day should be offered to all students so that they can become aware of the digital sector – last year, I was fortunate enough to be able to take part when a group of people from Yard came into my school.

We were given the task of promoting an artist’s new album by using social media and my friends and I really enjoyed it and found it interesting because we all like music.

I am now interested in potentially aiming for a job in digital marketing because not only is it a growing industry but it is also fast-moving and creative.”

We’re really excited to have Alison in the Yard offices this week and hope we offer her an interesting insight into some of the jobs available in digital marketing!
